Spent a relaxing 4th of July with the fam up on Cape Cod, doign a little fishing, a lot of bbqing and beer drinking, and caught most of the epic Wimbledon ffinal between Nadal and Federer. It was great to get out of the city and get some fishing in, and also (of course) to eat some amazing ice cream at The Sundae School.
I got out on the water both on Saturday and Sunday and we had some excellent striped bass action, catching and releasing about 40 fish.
Novak Djokovic, world #3 and Australian Open champion, was upset by Marat Safin in straight sets in the 2nd round today. I love tennis and think it's been vastly underappreciated in the US since Pete Sampras retired and the Williams sisters faded from the limelight. ESPN's preview article shows that Federer's drive to win his sixth straight at The All England Club will be tough, with a pontetial semi-final match against the talented young Serbian Novak Djokovic who beat Federer in the semis of the Australian Open earlier this year en route to a 4 set championship victory over French upstart Jo Wilfried Tsonga who, in addition to having one of the better names in sports, is injured and can't play in Wimbledon.
I'm torn by this as I love Federer, easily one of the great sportsmen of all time, and would like to see him catch Sampra. It's also easy to pull for these young guys like Djokovic. Check out this amazing clip of him impersonating basically every player on the ATP tour:
As for the ladies, Ana Ivanovic, another of the "Serbian wave", gets the top seed for the first time after winning at Roland Garros. I don't really like women's tennis that much but Ivanovic needs to get a little real estate here because she has much awesum for obvious reasons:
